Ottawa: High Commissioner Muhammad Saleem today called on Robert Oliphant, MP and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, in Ottawa.
The meeting focused on further strengthening the steadily expanding relations between Pakistan and Canada, with particular emphasis on enhancing political dialogue, economic cooperation, and people-to-people linkages. Both sides underscored the importance of maintaining regular high-level engagements to advance shared objectives and deepen mutual understanding.
During the discussion, High Commissioner Muhammad Saleem outlined a number of upcoming bilateral engagements, including trade and investment promotion activities, business-to-business interactions, and sector-specific forums aimed at encouraging greater commercial collaboration. He emphasized Pakistan’s growing market potential and the government’s commitment to facilitating foreign investment, particularly in priority sectors such as information technology, agriculture, energy, and manufacturing.
Connectivity-related initiatives were also reviewed, with both sides noting the importance of improving institutional linkages, academic exchanges, and collaboration in innovation and skills development. The High Commissioner highlighted the role of the Pakistani diaspora in Canada as a vital bridge between the two countries and acknowledged its contributions to strengthening economic and cultural ties.
Parliamentary Secretary Robert Oliphant welcomed the proposals and reiterated Canada’s interest in further expanding cooperation with Pakistan across multiple domains. He emphasized Canada’s support for constructive engagement, sustainable economic partnerships, and enhanced collaboration in areas of mutual interest.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to continue close coordination and to work together to translate the discussed initiatives into tangible outcomes, reinforcing the positive trajectory of Pakistan–Canada relations.
