Peshawar: In view of the forecast of continued rain and snowfall in the mountainous districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from January 25 to 27, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an advisory to all administrative secretaries, district administrations, and the Tourism Department to ensure timely precautionary and safety measures.
According to PDMA, expected rain and snowfall may lead to road closures, slippery conditions, landslides, avalanches, and flash floods in various areas, posing risks to residents and tourists. The public has been advised to avoid unnecessary travel, while tourists are strongly urged not to travel to upper and remote areas during periods of heavy rain and snowfall.
The advisory directs district administrations to continuously monitor roads, highways, and tourist destinations, keep emergency response teams on high alert, and ensure that control rooms remain connected with the Provincial Emergency Operations Center (PEOC). Hotels and guesthouses have also been instructed to inform tourists of potential hazards and issue timely alerts regarding snowfall and landslide risks.
PDMA stated that the situation is being closely monitored, and in case of any emergency, the public may contact the PDMA helpline at 1700.
