ISLAMABAD: Demonstrating its continued commitment to human security and sustainable development, the Government of Japan has formalised grant assistance amounting to USD 85,429 (approximately PKR 23.9 million) for two key community-level projects in Pakistan under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) programme.
The grant agreements were signed by His Excellency Mr. Akamatsu Shuichi, Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan, with representatives of two Pakistani non-governmental organisations—Bin Qutab Foundation and Saibaan Development Organization—during a ceremony held at the Embassy of Japan in Islamabad.
Boost to Maternal and Child Healthcare
Under the agreement, a grant of USD 55,230 (approx. PKR 15.5 million) has been awarded to the Bin Qutab Foundation for the construction and equipping of a Maternal and Child Healthcare Centre at Begum Noor Memorial Hospital in rural District Chakwal, Punjab.
The facility will offer integrated, round-the-clock services including safe deliveries, emergency obstetric care, neonatal services, and family planning awareness. The centre is expected to serve more than 10,000 patients annually, significantly contributing to the reduction of maternal and infant mortality and strengthening primary healthcare services in the area.

Improving Rural Connectivity in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
A separate grant of USD 30,199 (approx. PKR 8.4 million) has been allocated to the Saibaan Development Organization for the rehabilitation of a critical link road in Village Makrriha, District Mansehra, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The project includes road paving and the construction of protective retaining walls to ensure year-round access and improved safety. The upgraded infrastructure will directly benefit over 2,400 residents, while also supporting surrounding communities by improving access to markets, healthcare facilities, and educational institutions.
Commitment to Human Security
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Ambassador Akamatsu Shuichi reaffirmed Japan’s long-standing partnership with Pakistan.
“For decades, Japan has stood alongside Pakistan as a partner in progress, focusing on fundamental human needs,” the Ambassador said. “The GGP programme reflects our belief in community-driven development through capable local partners. Investments in healthcare and infrastructure lay the foundation for human security and sustainable growth.”
He further stated that Japan would continue to support grassroots initiatives across Pakistan aimed at improving the daily lives and well-being of local communities.
