ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has exposed a misleading social media claim circulating online regarding an alleged strike in South Waziristan against Pakistani forces.

According to a fact-check released by the ministry, an account linked to the Afghan Taliban on X (Twitter) with the handle @IEAUrduOfficial shared a video falsely claiming it depicted an attack in South Waziristan.

The ministry clarified that the footage actually originated from Kurdistan Region and had no connection with Pakistan. Officials noted that the same video had earlier been circulated by an alleged propaganda account @realBababanaras, believed to be linked with Research and Analysis Wing.

The fact-check stated that after social media users exposed the false claim, the Taliban-affiliated account quietly deleted the misleading post.

Authorities said the incident highlights coordination among hostile propaganda networks that attempt to manipulate unrelated foreign footage to create false narratives about developments along the Pakistan–Afghanistan border.

The ministry reiterated that misinformation campaigns cannot overshadow facts, emphasizing that truth ultimately prevails over falsehood.
