D.I. Khan: Federal Minister for Defence Khawaja Asif met JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman to brief him on the latest developments regarding the proposed Greenfield International Airport in Dera Ismail Khan.

During the meeting, the defence minister shared updates on the progress made so far on the project, which was announced by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in 2024 on the proposal of Maulana Fazlur Rehman. The airport is planned near Yarik and Glooti areas of D.I. Khan.

Officials of the Pakistan Airports Authority had earlier also briefed Maulana Fazlur Rehman on the project a couple of months ago. In the latest briefing at his residence, Khawaja Asif informed that Section 4 for land acquisition has already been enforced since last year.

He further stated that expert reports covering environmental impact, climate conditions, wind direction, and other technical aspects have been completed. Based on these assessments, progress is underway for the approval of protective embankments to safeguard the airport and adjoining land from potential flooding caused by hill torrents.

More than 1,800 acres of land will be acquired for the project, which is part of the government’s broader aviation infrastructure development programme.

The meeting reaffirmed the government’s commitment to advancing the project aimed at improving connectivity and promoting economic development in the region.
