Report: Shabbir Jan
An important video link meeting was held under the chairmanship of Commissioner Peshawar Division and Chairman Regional Transport Authority, Riaz Khan Mehsud, regarding the reduction in transport fares and the implementation of government relief measures.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Commissioners of all five districts of Peshawar Division—Peshawar, Nowshera, Charsadda, Mohmand tribal district, and Khyber district—along with the Secretary of the Regional Transport Authority.
During the meeting, a detailed review was conducted of the relief provided by the provincial government to the transport sector. On government instructions, schedule tax and terminal (adda) tax have been waived for one month across all districts, and transporters have been bound to pass this benefit directly on to passengers.
The Commissioner Peshawar Division issued important instructions for effective monitoring of fares, directing the deployment of three Assistant Commissioners in each district to check fares at transport stands and major highways. He also instructed Deputy Commissioners to remain in the field and personally supervise actions to prevent overcharging.
Furthermore, transporters were strictly directed to prominently display the official fare list on their vehicles so that passengers can be aware of the approved fares.
The meeting was held in the context of the Commissioner’s recent visit to bus terminals, GT Road, and the Motorway in Peshawar, with the aim of ensuring effective implementation of fare reductions in other districts as well and providing relief to the public.
The Commissioner Peshawar Division clearly stated that public complaints will be addressed immediately and strict, indiscriminate action will be taken against those charging excess fares to ensure full compliance with government directives.
