PESHAWAR: Adviser to the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sports, Taj Muhammad Khan Tarand, has said that the outstanding performance of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa players at national and international levels is a matter of pride for the province and the country.
He expressed these views while addressing a ceremony organized by the in honor of medal-winning players of the South Asian Regional Badminton Championship.
The ceremony was attended by Director General Sports Tashfeen Haider, Regional Sports Officer Kashif Farhan, Chief Coach Shafqatullah, Project Director Arbab Faiz, Secretary KP Badminton Association Mian Sadaqat Shah and other officials.
The Sports Adviser said the provincial government is taking practical steps for the welfare of players and providing them with every possible facility. He added that athletes are bringing glory to Pakistan by winning medals in national and international competitions.
He said the government is encouraging players in every possible way and has already distributed cash prizes worth more than Rs25 million among medal winners of the National Games.
On the occasion, cash prizes were distributed among players who won medals in the South Asian Badminton Championship, including Hasnain, Muhammad Zaid, Fahad Ahmed, Omar Jahangir, Muhammad Hasher Shah, Qari Muhammad Omar, Shabbir, Sami Khan and Qari Muhammad Adnan for their performances in international events.
Taj Muhammad Khan Tarand announced cash awards of Rs100,000 each for gold medalists, Rs75,000 for silver medalists and Rs50,000 for bronze medalists. Coaches Nadeem Khan, Bushra Khan, Malik Faraz and Hayatullah were also awarded prizes.
The Pakistan team in the South Asian Badminton Championship included six players from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, who collectively secured five gold, five silver and four bronze medals through outstanding performances.
