PESHAWAR: Senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Advocate Muazzam Butt has announced the launch of a “Justice for Imran Khan Movement,” stating that the initiative aims to uphold the supremacy of the Constitution, strengthen judicial independence, and ensure justice for former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

He was addressing a ceremony held at the premises of the Peshawar High Court. The event was attended by founding member of the Insaf Lawyers Forum (ILF) Advocate Shadab Jaffery, Provincial President ILF Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Advocate Ali Zaman, along with a large number of lawyers.

Muazzam Butt said that the legal fraternity must unite to safeguard justice, constitutional supremacy, and democratic values. He further stated that, just as former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was later declared a victim of judicial murder, similar concerns could be raised regarding Imran Khan’s safety in custody, claiming that his life is at risk in jail.

He said the movement has been launched to raise a voice for judicial independence, protection of constitutional rights, and the establishment of a transparent justice system.

Speaking on the occasion, Advocate Shadab Jaffery emphasized that all segments of society must collectively struggle for the rule of law in Pakistan. He said an independent and strong judiciary is the true guarantor of citizens’ fundamental rights. Referring to Article 14 of the Constitution, he noted that the protection of human dignity is the responsibility of the state, adding that strict implementation of the Constitution is the need of the hour.

Advocate Ali Zaman said that Peshawar has always played a prominent role in lawyers’ movements. He added that lawyers have consistently raised their voice against unconstitutional steps and authoritarianism, and will continue their struggle for the supremacy of law and the Constitution.

The speakers also expressed concern over the 26th and 27th Constitutional Amendments, claiming that these changes have weakened the judiciary. The event concluded with a pledge to continue efforts for judicial independence, constitutional supremacy, and an effective justice system.
