PESHAWAR: Tariq Pervaiz, President of the Pakistan Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation, has strongly rejected the Pakistan Sports Board’s (PSB) recent move to conduct elections for the bodybuilding federation, terming it as entirely unconstitutional and a blatant overreach of authority.

Speaking to the media, Tariq Pervaiz made it clear that the Pakistan Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation, under his leadership, is the only recognized national body for the sport in the country. He emphasized that the federation holds official membership with both the Asian Bodybuilding Federation and the World Bodybuilding Federation. Furthermore, Tariq Pervaiz himself occupies an important position within the Asian Bodybuilding Federation — a fact he cited as proof of his federation’s legitimacy on the international stage.

He strongly criticized the PSB’s attempt to stage what he called a “drama” in the name of federation elections, warning that such unwarranted interference is harmful to the development of bodybuilding in Pakistan. “If the Pakistan Sports Board is genuinely interested in promoting bodybuilding, it should focus on providing facilities and opportunities to young athletes across the country, rather than disrupting the sport with baseless interventions,” he asserted.

Tariq Pervaiz also pointed out that Pakistani bodybuilders have made the nation proud by winning medals not only in Asia but also at the global level. Unfortunately, he said, the PSB’s ill-considered actions are creating unnecessary obstacles in the path of this sport’s progress.

He appealed to the country’s top leadership, including the Prime Minister and the Federal Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination, to take immediate notice of the situation. He urged them to rein in the PSB, ensuring it operates strictly within its constitutional and legal boundaries so that bodybuilding in Pakistan can flourish independently and professionally.

Tariq Pervaiz concluded by stating that bodybuilding, a sport that has earned Pakistan global recognition and respect, must be safeguarded from administrative conflicts and unconstitutional interference. He reminded the PSB of its true responsibility — to promote positive activities among the youth and raise Pakistan’s flag high on international sporting platforms.
