PESHAWAR : Pakistan Railways on Monday formally inaugurated the upgraded Awam Express during a simple yet dignified ceremony held at Peshawar Railway Station. The inauguration was carried out by the Secretary Railways on the directives of Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, while former national cricket team captain Shahid Afridi was also present on the occasion.
During the ceremony, the Secretary Railways and Shahid Afridi reviewed the modern facilities introduced aboard the upgraded train. The revamped Awam Express now offers onboard Wi-Fi, comfortable and modern seating, an improved travel environment, and enhanced passenger amenities aimed at ensuring a safe, convenient, and pleasant journey for commuters.
On the occasion, Shahid Afridi also inaugurated a modern cold-water filtration plant at Peshawar Railway Station, providing passengers with access to clean and chilled drinking water.
Speaking to the media, the Secretary Railways described the initiative as an “Eid gift” for the people of Peshawar. He added that, on the special instructions of Federal Minister Hanif Abbasi, the inauguration ceremony had been kept brief and modest.
The Secretary Railways also paid tribute to the martyrs of the Quetta blast and offered prayers for the departed souls, as well as for the country’s peace, stability, and security.
He reiterated Pakistan Railways’ commitment to continuing practical measures aimed at providing modern, safe, and high-quality travel facilities to passengers across the country.
