PESHAWAR: President of the Pakistan Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (PBFF), Tariq Pervez, has formally written to the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA), raising serious concerns over what he described as unconstitutional interference by the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) in the internal affairs of the federation.
In his letter addressed to POA President Arif Saeed, Tariq Pervez stated that the PSB is unlawfully meddling in the independent matters of the federation, which is a clear violation of the International Olympic Charter and the principles ensuring the autonomy of sports federations.
He clarified that the official elections of the Pakistan Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation were conducted transparently in 2022, and the elected body’s tenure is valid until 2026. All legal and constitutional requirements were duly fulfilled during these elections. Despite this, the PSB’s attempts to impose unauthorized decisions and interfere in federation matters are undermining the autonomy of the body and raising serious questions about its independence.
Tariq Pervez urged the POA to take immediate notice of this issue and restrain the PSB from intervening in the constitutional rights and jurisdiction of the Bodybuilding Federation. He emphasized that the independence of sports federations is an integral part of international sports policy, and any compromise in this regard is unacceptable.
It is worth mentioning that in recent weeks, several sports federations have also voiced concerns regarding the PSB’s direct interference in their operations. These developments have sparked unrest within the bodybuilding community, where experts warn that continued interference by the PSB could harm not only the credibility of the federations but also hinder the overall development of sports in the country.
