KARACHI: Assalamualaikum, My name is Maryam Ali. I’m a 38 years old mother of three — a daughter aged 16, and two sons aged 12 and 9. I live in Karachi. I’m also a wife and an artist who has been fighting a silent battle since childhood.
I was born with Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) — a rare eye disease that slowly damages vision over time. Today, I have already lost around 70% of my eyesight. I see the world in fragments — blurry, dim, and full of shadows. In low light or at night, I see nothing at all.
Despite this, I’ve always tried to stay strong — for my children, my husband, and myself. I continue painting and creating artwork to support my family and express my emotions. Art is how I show the world what I feel and see.
But now, I need your help. There is a treatment in China that can help stop the damage, support my remaining vision, and improve my eye health.
My Journey
Diagnosed with RP since childhood
My vision has been slowly fading with time
I face tunnel vision, night blindness, color difficulty, and blurry sight
I paint to earn, but as my eyesight fades, it’s becoming harder
