Karachi: IGP Sindh Javed Alam Odho presided over a comprehensive security review meeting to assess preparations for Muharram-ul-Haram. The meeting was attended by senior police officers, prominent Shia scholars and organizers of the processions or majlis. Reviewed the overall security arrangements for Majalis and mourning processions. Representatives expressed satisfaction with the security measures undertaken by Sindh Police and appreciated the department’s efforts to maintain law and order during Muharram.

During the meeting, the Additional IG Karachi presented a detailed briefing on security arrangements in the metropolis, while the AIG Operations outlined the province-wide security plan for Muharram-ul-Haram.

The Karachi Police Chief brief that at district and zonal level coordination meetings had been completed across the city. Organizers and representatives of the majlis and procession had been fully briefed on security measures, He added that combing operations, search operations and other preventive measures had been intensified ahead of Muharram.

Briefing the meeting on provincial preparations, the AIG Operations said that a comprehensive security plan had been devised for 2,451 Imambargahs, 18,030 Majalis, 4,369 mourning processions, and 963 Tazia processions across Sindh. He further stated that coordination meetings involving religious scholars, district administrations, and relevant institutions had been scheduled in all districts and divisions to facilitate the smooth implementation of security arrangements.

IG Sindh said that, as in previous years, Muharram-ul-Haram would be observed in a peaceful and secure atmosphere through the collective efforts of law enforcement agencies, religious scholars, procession organizers and the public. He noted that, in light of prevailing regional and security challenges, authorities were maintaining heightened vigilance against any attempts by miscreants to disrupt peace. He directed the Special Branch and CTD to further strengthen intelligence-sharing and coordination to ensure effective monitoring of suspicious elements.

Further He ordered the strict implementation of the provincial Muharram security plan and called for enhanced search operations, reconnaissance activities and snap-checking at entry and exit points of districts across Sindh. Police officials to ensure continuous monitoring of Imambargahs, Majalis, and procession routes throughout Muharram to prevent any untoward incidents.

The meeting was also informed that a special traffic management plan would be enforced during Muharram processions to maintain the smooth flow of traffic. Citizens were advised to follow official traffic advisories and remain connected with Sindh Police and Traffic Police platforms for updates regarding traffic arrangements and road closures during Muharram-ul-Haram.
