PESHAWAR: The KMU Institute of Public Mental Health & Behavioral Sciences (IPMH&BS), Peshawar, made a significant contribution to the National Mental Health Conference 2026, reaffirming its commitment to advancing mental health research, education, clinical excellence, and advocacy in Pakistan.
Representing the institute, Head of Department Ms. Huma Kanwal participated as a distinguished panelist alongside renowned international experts, including Dr. Zainab Nayyar and US-based Neuropsychologist Dr. Naveed. The panel explored the growing socio-emotional challenges confronting today’s youth, emphasizing the need for early intervention, evidence-based mental healthcare, and integrated psychosocial support systems within educational institutions and communities.
Further highlighting the institute’s research excellence, Demonstrator Ms. Sana Raza presented her research titled “Social Stigma and Psychological Well-being among Unmarried Women in Pakistan.” The study received appreciation for addressing a critical yet underexplored public mental health issue, shedding light on the psychological consequences of societal expectations and underscoring the need for culturally responsive mental health interventions, public awareness, and informed policy reforms.
A group of enthusiastic IPMH&BS students also actively participated in the conference by attending scientific sessions, engaging with leading mental health professionals, and interacting with researchers from across Pakistan. Their participation provided valuable academic exposure, fostered professional networking, and enhanced their understanding of emerging trends, innovative therapeutic approaches, and contemporary research in mental and behavioral health.
The conference served as an important platform for knowledge exchange, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the dissemination of innovative research aimed at strengthening mental health services in Pakistan. The active participation of IPMH&BS faculty and students reflects KMU’s vision of nurturing competent mental health professionals equipped to address the country’s evolving psychological and behavioral health needs through research, innovation, and community engagement.
