ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) Council of Complaints Islamabad held its 121st meeting at PEMRA Headquarters, reviewing pending complaints, media compliance and regulatory matters.
The meeting, chaired by Syed Muhammad Ali, was attended by members Fauzia Shahid, Gauhar Zahid Malik, Dr. Surayya Kanwal Afridi and Kaiwan Hamid Raja.
The Council was informed that 637 complaints related to electronic media content and wages had been disposed of in 38 meetings over the past two years, marking the highest performance by any Council of Complaints since PEMRA’s establishment.
The Council also reviewed the implementation of its recommendations and discussed the status of landing rights permission holders and the distribution of foreign television channels in Pakistan.
It recommended that all cable distributors strictly comply with Sections 19 and 19(2) of the PEMRA Ordinance, 2007 (as amended), ensuring that only licensed foreign channels are carried on distribution networks.
The Council also adjudicated nine content-related agenda items during the meeting.
