PESHAWAR: Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Thursday reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting the rights of minorities and also assured physiotherapists that their professional issues would be taken up with the relevant authorities.
During a meeting with minority members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, Bahari Lal and Askar Parvez, the Governor discussed issues facing minority communities, their welfare, protection of rights and ongoing as well as proposed legislation related to minority rights and facilities in the provincial assembly.
Governor Kundi said all minorities in Pakistan enjoy equal constitutional rights, adding that ensuring the protection of their lives, property, religious freedom and social security was the state’s responsibility.
He said minority communities were playing an important role in the country’s development and prosperity and assured that every possible effort would be made to address their issues.
The meeting also discussed arrangements for a special ceremony at the Governor House to mark the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, Minority Day, with participants agreeing to ensure the participation of representatives of different faiths, social leaders and elected public representatives.
In a separate meeting, a delegation of the Pakistan Physical Therapy Association, led by its President Dr Pirzada, called on the Governor and apprised him of issues related to the Allied Health Council.
The delegation particularly highlighted professional, employment and registration problems faced by graduates who had completed the five-year Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree.
Governor Kundi said healthcare professionals were an integral part of the national health system and resolving their genuine issues was the responsibility of the relevant institutions.
He said physiotherapists were playing a vital role in the rehabilitation and recovery of patients and their concerns deserved serious attention.
The Governor assured the delegation that the issues raised by physiotherapists would be taken up with the Allied Health Council and the relevant federal authorities to ensure their timely resolution.
