PESHAWAR: The National Lobbying Delegation for Minority Rights (NLD) organized an awareness session on the Succession Act 1925 at China Window, Pak-China Cultural Center, Peshawar, focusing on inheritance and property rights of the Christian community, particularly widows and daughters.
Legal expert Adv. Mudassar Farooq briefed participants on key provisions of the law, procedures for obtaining Succession Certificates and Letters of Administration, wills and their registration, and legal remedies available in inheritance disputes. The session was facilitated by NLD Focal Person Haroon Sarab Diyal.
Participants discussed practical difficulties faced by Christian families in claiming their rightful inheritance during an interactive question-and-answer session.
The session was attended by Wazir Zada, Focal Person to the Chief Minister KP; Bishop Shakil Charagh; Rev. Father Amir Khan; Rev. Tariq Javed; pastors, lawyers, public prosecutors and NLD representatives from Punjab, Balochistan and Sindh. Community elders, women leaders, youth representatives and social workers from across KP also participated.
Participants adopted resolutions calling for legal awareness campaigns in Urdu, Pashto and English, establishment of legal facilitation desks in major KP cities, pro-bono legal assistance for deserving widows and orphans, and engagement with the provincial government to simplify succession procedures.
Haroon Sarab Diyal said legal awareness was essential for protecting minority rights and ensuring equal access to justice. He said NLD would continue working with government institutions, the judiciary, churches and civil society to promote awareness of the legal rights of the Christian community.
The session concluded with a commitment to ensure that Christian widows, daughters and other rightful heirs receive their lawful inheritance and access to justice.
