OTTAWA: The High Commission for Pakistan in Ottawa and the Consulates General in Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver commemorated Pakistan’s 80th Independence Day alongside year-long celebrations marking the 150th birth anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
A flag-hoisting ceremony was held at the High Commission’s Chancery premises, where special messages from the President, Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister were read out.
A documentary highlighting Quaid-e-Azam’s life, leadership and historic struggle for Pakistan was screened, while a digital photographic exhibition showcased key moments from his life and important milestones in the country’s history.

High Commissioner Muhammad Saleem congratulated the nation on Independence Day and paid tribute to the enduring legacy of Quaid-e-Azam. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the Quaid’s vision of a peaceful, democratic and prosperous country, while highlighting the important role of the Pakistani diaspora in strengthening people-to-people ties between Pakistan and Canada.
A large number of Pakistani community members and friends of Pakistan attended the event. Families and youth participated enthusiastically, expressing patriotic spirit and paying tribute to the sacrifices of Pakistan’s armed forces and people.
