KOHAT: Religious and educational institutions have an important role in shaping the moral and intellectual development of young people, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Shafi Jan said at a Pakistan Independence Day event in Kohat which was organised by the Muttahida Ulema Council Kohat Division and the Youth Affairs Department at Madrassa Anwar-ul-Sohaba in Jangal Khel, marked Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day.
Deputy Commissioner Kohat Muhammad Nawaz Wazir, Kohat Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Rashid Paracha, religious scholars, students and people from different walks of life attended the ceremony.

Children and young people took part in Quran recitation, speech and general knowledge competitions aimed at promoting educational, religious and historical awareness.

Addressing the gathering, Jan praised the organisers and said such activities help promote national consciousness, patriotism and unity among young people. He urged the younger generation to play an active role in the country’s development, stability and prosperity.
The speakers also highlighted the sacrifices made by the country’s founders and earlier generations in the struggle for independence.

The ceremony concluded with prayers for Pakistan’s security, stability, unity and prosperity. Awards and shields were presented to participants who performed prominently in the competitions.
