PROVINCE REPORT

PESHAWAR: Public, social and political circles in Dir have expressed serious concern over the incident involving senior Pakistan Customs officer Dr Karam Elahi, urging the government to handle the matter with utmost seriousness and ensure that he is not subjected to any form of torture and is given a fair opportunity to present his defence.

People from Dir and other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including members of various professions, have expressed concern over the matter on social media platforms. They described Dr Karam Elahi as an honest and dedicated officer and said the situation had caused serious distress among his family and people across Dir.

Social circles have appealed to the authorities to ensure that no fabricated recovery is shown against him and that he is not forced to make any inappropriate statement. They also called for safeguards against any alleged unlawful detention and urged the authorities not to block his salary account, warning that such a step could adversely affect his children’s basic needs, education and future.

Political circles have also expressed resentment over what they termed his media trial and negative propaganda without proper investigation or a judicial verdict. They urged the relevant authorities to immediately stop any further media trial or character assassination, stressing that courts are the proper forums to determine the facts and decide the matter.

According to posts and reactions on social media, people in Dir have expressed solidarity with Dr Karam Elahi and appealed to the government to ensure a transparent, impartial and lawful investigation so that justice can be served.
