By: Muhammad Rehan
DIKHAN: Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi has said that there should be no compromise on the health and well-being of any political leader, while praying for the recovery of former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Speaking to senior journalist Muhammad Rehan, Governor Kundi said the KP government claims to provide quality healthcare in provincial hospitals, but questioned why people have continued to travel to Al-Shifa and other institutions for treatment over the past 13 years.
He said the issue of constitutional courts had also created contradictions within the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), adding that the party would have to decide which position it supported.
On development projects, Governor Kundi said land had been purchased for the establishment of a NADRA office in Dera Ismail Khan, while work on a modern office was underway and its foundation stone would be laid soon.
He said the Dera Ismail Khan Airport project was at the approval stage before the Pakistan Aviation Authority Board. The transmission line issue of DI Khan Grid Station-II was under litigation, while an alternative line was nearing completion. He added that the Band Korai Grid Station had become operational and would be inaugurated soon.
Regarding the Chashma Lift Canal project, Kundi said consultations between the federal and provincial governments were continuing. He stressed that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa must receive its rightful share of water under the 1991 Water Accord, saying this could help the province achieve self-sufficiency in wheat production.
He also called for the CRBC project to be handed over to the Irrigation Department, following the model adopted in Punjab, where the department had completed the relevant work.
The Governor thanked Al-Shifa Eye Trust for holding a free medical camp in Dera Ismail Khan and said another camp would be organised. He added that a proposal for establishing an Al-Shifa Eye Trust hospital in the city was also under consideration.
Kundi further said that the SIUT project for kidney patients, gifted by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, would soon become a reality, with the foundation stone expected to be laid shortly.
He said practical measures were essential to provide people with better healthcare, education, electricity, irrigation and other basic facilities, assuring that efforts would continue to resolve the problems of the people of Dera Ismail Khan and other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
