PESHAWAR:
Mahnoor Kalim MPhil scholar in the Department of Food and Nutrition Sciences at the College of Home Economics University of Peshawar has successfully defended her research thesis on the treatment of severe acute malnutrition among children.
Her thesis titled Evaluating the Effectiveness of Therapeutic Nutritional Supplements in Treating Severe Acute Malnutrition among Children Aged 2–5 Years in District Peshawar examines the effectiveness of therapeutic nutritional supplements in addressing severe acute malnutrition among children between two and five years of age in Peshawar.
The research was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Zahin Anjum, while Dr. Ayesha Bibi Chairperson of the Department of Human Nutrition and Dietetics at Women University Mardan evaluated the thesis as the external examiner.
Speaking on the occasion Prof. Dr. Syeda Kaniz Fatima Haider, Acting Principal of the College of Home Economics University of Peshawar, appreciated the efforts of the supervisor Dr. Zahin Anjum and faculty members in promoting research and academic excellence.
She said research focusing on critical health issues such as childhood malnutrition contributes to the advancement of scientific knowledge and supports evidence-based policymaking in the health sector.
Prof. Dr. Haider Kaniz Fatima
further said that research on children’s nutritional needs, health and development can play an important role in improving the wellbeing of vulnerable segments of society. She stressed the need for educational institutions to encourage practical and socially relevant research addressing pressing community health challenges.
Faculty members, researchers and other participants congratulated Mahnoor Kalim and her supervisor, Dr. Zahin Anjum, on the successful completion of the research and expressed their best wishes for Mahnoor Kalim’s future academic and professional career.
