TORKHAM: A prolonged internet shutdown at the Torkham border has disrupted daily life, journalism and business activities, with residents reporting a lack of internet and mobile phone signals in several areas.
The communications blackout has made it difficult for people to contact their families and for traders to conduct routine business. Journalists working at the border are also facing serious difficulties in filing news reports and uploading content.
A local journalist said internet access was essential for sending reports and uploading material to official platforms. He said journalists were being forced to travel to Landi Kotal to access the internet and send their stories.
The journalist said the situation had made reporting from the border extremely difficult and raised concerns about the ability of journalists to promptly report developments and issues at Torkham.
Residents, traders and journalists have called for restoration of internet and mobile services to facilitate communication and normal business and professional activities.
