PESHAWAR: Former President of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and former Provincial Health Minister Syed Zahir Ali Shah has urged party workers to remain united, prepare for the upcoming elections and take the party’s message to every household.
Addressing a dinner hosted in honour of former Qaumi Watan Party leader Syed Fayyaz Ali Shah at the residence of PPP leader Haji Gulshan Khan, Syed Zahir Ali Shah said that if even one rupee of corruption was proved against him during his tenure, he would be ready to face the strictest punishment.
The gathering was attended by former Peshawar City PPP president Zulfiqar Afridi, Malik Rabnawaz, Haji Talha Khan, Syed Fayyaz Ali Shah, who recently resigned from the Qaumi Watan Party and joined the PPP along with his associates, as well as a large number of senior Peshawar City leaders and party workers.
Syed Zahir Ali Shah called upon the workers to set aside internal differences, strengthen the party organization at the grassroots level and improve contacts with the people.
Criticizing the provincial government, he said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was facing serious challenges related to law and order, healthcare and other basic public services, while the government appeared more focused on political activities and protest politics.
He said that government hospitals were facing shortages of medicines, medical facilities and beds, adding that greater attention should be given to resolving the problems faced by the public.
Syed Zahir Ali Shah also announced that a public gathering would be held in Peshawar on October 18 to pay tribute to the martyrs of the Karsaz tragedy.
He further announced that a PPP office for Peshawar City workers would soon be inaugurated at Milad Chowk on Ashraf Road, where party workers would be able to raise their issues. He said he and Syed Fayyaz Ali Shah would make every possible effort to address workers’ problems.
The speakers welcomed Syed Fayyaz Ali Shah and his associates into the PPP and congratulated them on joining the party. They also discussed party activities, organizational matters and the future political strategy of the PPP.
At the conclusion of the event, Haji Gulshan Khan thanked all the guests and party workers for attending the gathering.
