PROVINCE REPORT

KOHAT: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Law, Human Rights and Parliamentary Affairs Aftab Alam has formally inaugurated the new Government Girls Degree College No. 4 on Pindi Road, marking a major expansion of public-sector higher education opportunities for women in Kohat after a 15-year gap.
The new college is expected to provide female students with easier access to higher education closer to their homes, particularly benefiting those who face difficulties travelling to institutions located farther away.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Aftab Alam said improving access to quality education was essential for the province’s social and economic development. He said the establishment of the college would help reduce the travel time and financial burden faced by the students and their families while pursuing higher education.
“Providing young people with quality education and modern skills is essential for the development of the province,” Alam said, stressing that educational institutions should serve not only as physical facilities but also as centres for learning, skills development and future opportunities.
The Minister said expanding educational opportunities for women would help empower young people and contribute to stronger communities.
The ceremony was attended by Higher Education Department Director Fazal Hadi, College Principal Dr. Samina, former Togh Bala Nazim Shaukat Khan, Kohat District Education Officer Zahoor Khan, local Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leaders, government officials and community representatives.
Participants also acknowledged the efforts and support of Member of National Assembly Shehryar Afridi in connection with the establishment of the college. Officials said the institution would particularly benefit students who had previously been unable to pursue higher education easily because of travel constraints and limited access.
