PESHAWAR : Hoor Maab, an MPhil scholar at the Department of Food and Nutrition Sciences, College of Home Economics, University of Peshawar, has successfully defended her research thesis examining the effects of a low-glycemic index diet on women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS).

Titled “Effects of a Low-Glycemic Index Diet on the Health of Women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS),” the study was conducted under the supervision of Dr Fazia Ghaffar. Principal Prof Dr Shazia Ghulam Muhammad supervised the examination proceedings, while Assistant Professor Dr Abbas Khan of the University of Haripur served as the external examiner.

The study found that a low-glycemic index diet was associated with improvements in the metabolic and hormonal profiles, sleep quality and psychological well-being of women with PCOS. It also highlighted the role of dietary interventions in improving the overall health and quality of life of women affected by the condition.

Members of the GSA Committee, Coordinator Dr Sidra Ali, faculty members, researchers and students attended the thesis defence.

On the occasion, Prof Dr Shazia Ghulam Muhammad congratulated Hoor Maab on successfully defending her thesis. She said that, alongside medical treatment, individualized dietary counselling should be given due importance in the management of PCOS and other hormonal disorders among women.

She said research-based dietary interventions could help develop more effective nutritional guidance and care strategies for women affected by PCOS.
