MALAKAND: Commissioner Malakand Division Abid wazir inaugurated the Monsoon Tree Plantation Campaign by planting an orange sapling at the lawn of Commissioner Office Saidu Sharif, following directives of KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur. Later, he chaired a meeting regarding the campaign attended by the Chief Conservator of Forests Malakand Region-3, Conservators of Forests Malakand (East & West Circles), and all Deputy Commissioners of Malakand Division via video link.
Chief Conservator Forests Malakand Region-3 briefed the meeting on the Monsoon Tree Plantation Campaign. Commissioner Malakand stated that under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Billion Tree Tsunami initiative, diverse tree species will be planted across Malakand Division. Forest Department will provide free fruit-bearing and other varieties of saplings to government institutions and the public during this campaign.
He further directed all Deputy Commissioners to hold meetings with their respective Divisional Forest Officers and relevant departments to ensure the campaign’s success, and to submit monsoon plantation requirements to the Forest Department. All DCs must ensure fruit-bearing trees are planted in relevant departments as per the Chief Minister’s directives.
Emphasizing climate change mitigation, the Commissioner stated that maximum plantation is required during this campaign. All DCs were instructed to engage civil society, private entities, and government/semi-government institutions in their respective districts to ensure the campaign’s success. The Commissioner appealed to civil society, private organizations, government/semi-government institutions, and volunteers to contribute to this plantation drive to combat future climate challenges.
