PESHAWAR:The inaugural Police Martyrs Inter-Regional Sports Competition commenced with a vibrant opening ceremony at Tahmas Khan Football Stadium, Peshawar. The event was officially inaugurated by AIG Establishment/Director Sports KP Police Sports Board Sonia Shamroz, who was joined by In-charge Sports Naeem Gul, Chief Organizer Akhtar Hussain, Media Coordinator Line Officer Muhammad Tanveer, and families of police martyrs, among other distinguished guests.
Speaking at the event, Director Sports Sonia Shamroz emphasized that the tournament has been organized under the banner of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police to pay homage to the sacrifices made by police martyrs. The competition features four sports: football, cricket, volleyball, and badminton, with participation from all seven police regions and over 500 players taking part.

The opening football match saw Bannu Region defeat Peshawar Region 4-1. Goals for Bannu were scored by Shahram Khan, Sohrab Khan, and Junaid Khan, while Rizwan Ali scored the lone goal for Peshawar. In the second match, Hazara Region edged out Mardan Region 1-0, with Farhad Abbasi netting the only goal.
According to organizers:
•Football matches are being held at Tahmas Khan Football Stadium.
•Cricket matches will take place at Abbottabad Police Lines.
•Badminton contests are scheduled at Peshawar Sports Complex.
•Volleyball matches will be played at Peshawar Police Lines in the second phase.
This event not only provides a platform for athletic excellence but also strengthens camaraderie and pays lasting tribute to the brave heroes of the police force.
