Staff Report
PESHAWAR: Following a forecast by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicting a wet spell in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa this week, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert for Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs) and flash floods.
According to the PMD, scattered rain and thunderstorms, with isolated heavy downpours, are expected across the province. These weather conditions may increase the risk of GLOFs and flash floods in vulnerable glaciated areas, particularly in Kumrat and Dir.
The PDMA has urged all relevant authorities to take precautionary measures to prevent potential loss of life, livestock, and damage to infrastructure and crops. Departments concerned have been directed to remain on high alert and ensure timely safety arrangements in light of the forecast.
