Health teams are working round-the-clock in the affected districts to control the outbreak of diseases: CM aide

PESHAWAR: Advisor to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Information and Public Relations, Barrister Dr. Saif, has said that relief and rehabilitation activities are rapidly continuing in all floodaffected districts of the province, with the Chief Minister personally supervising the operations. So far, 302 relief trucks have been dispatched to the affected areas, while more are on the way. Rescue, Relief, Civil Defence, and all other relevant institutions are actively participating in relief efforts, along with five Army and one provincial helicopter engaged in the operations. Addressing a joint press conference at the Information Cell in the Civil Secretariat alongside Director General PDMA Asfandyar Khattak and Director General Rescue 1122 Tayyab Abdullah, Barrister Dr. Saif said that the Chief Minister has increased the compensation package for flood martyrs from PKR 1 million to PKR 2 million, while the compensation for the injured has also been doubled. He reaffirmed that the government will not rest until every affected individual has been compensated. Barrister Dr. Saif further stated that health teams are working round-theclock in the affected districts to control the outbreak of infectious diseases. He added that the provincial government is fully aware of the trauma suffered by the flood victims, and in this regard, teams of psychologists will soon be deployed to the affected areas to provide necessary mental health support. Responding to a question, Barrister Dr. Saif clarified that, so far, no foreign aid has been received for flood victims, nor has any assistance been provided by the Punjab government. However, he pointed out that two Rescue 1122 vehicles belonging to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are still with Punjab and have not been returned. Providing details of the losses, Director General PDMA Asfandyar Khattak said that so far, 393 people have lost their lives and 190 have been injured. A total of 1,711 houses have been damaged, of which 425 were completely destroyed while the remaining sustained partial damage. He added that the process of compensating the victims in all affected districts is in full swing. Director General Rescue 1122, Tayyab Abdullah, while briefing the media, said that a total of 5,690 people were affected by the floods. Timely operations saved 5,255 people. In the affected districts, 2,000 rescue personnel are actively working, including 246 divers.
