PESHAWAR:Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP) successfully completed Eid-ul-Adha special sanitation operation.
According to a statement issued here on Monday a total of 3,563 personnel took part in the operation, during which offal and remains of sacrificial animals were collected and disposed of in Shamshato dumping site using 707 small and large vehicles. On the final day of operation, main roads and collection points across the city were washed with a mixture of Arqi Gulab and chlorine, followed by spraying and lime application.
It was stated that Provincial Minister for Local Government Arshad Ayub visited various areas of the city and praised the WSSP staff for ensuring timely cleanliness. Chief Secretary Syed Shehab Ali Shah also visited areas including University Road, Ring Road, Canal Road, Circular Road, and inner Yakka Toot on the first day of Eid to inspect the cleanliness operation and expressed satisfaction over WSSP’s arrangements.
Acting Mayor Dr. Muhammad Ismail, chairman of neighborhood councils, political and social circles, and general public appreciated the Eid operation. Commissioner Peshawar Division Riaz Khan Mehsud also visited the field and commended the performance of the WSSP staff deployed for Eid sanitation.
The operation was supervised by Chief Executive Officer Yasir Ali. During the three-day operation, 14,200 tons of offal and remains of sacrificial animals were collected. Seventeen collection points and five temporary transfer stations were established to collect waste from streets and neighborhoods. A complaint cell remained active throughout the three days of Eid, receiving more than 400 complaints, all of which were promptly addressed.
To ensure safe collection of offal, biodegradable plastic bags were distributed among the public. An awareness campaign was also run using the services of religious scholars and elected representatives.
CEO Yasir Ali Khan, GM Operations Muhammad Ijaz, and other senior officials remained present in the field throughout the three days, and the operation was continuously monitored. The offal and remains of animals were disposed of in deep pits in Shamshato, covered with lime, sprayed, and then buried with soil. Drinking water supply was also maintained during all three days.
Yasir Ali Khan praised the staff and officials who took part in the operation, stating that the team sacrificed their own Eid to ensure the service and cleanliness for the citizens of Peshawar.
