MOSCOW: Russia has expressed serious concern over the recent escalation of armed clashes between Afghanistan and Pakistan, urging both countries to exercise restraint and resolve their differences through dialogue.

In a statement issued on February 27, 2026, Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, said Moscow is worried about the sharp rise in hostilities between the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

Zakharova noted that the clashes involve the use of regular army units, aircraft, and heavy weapons, resulting in casualties and injuries on both sides, including among civilians.

She stressed that Russia considers both Afghanistan and Pakistan friendly countries and called on them to avoid further escalation. Moscow urged the two sides to refrain from dangerous confrontation and return to the negotiating table to resolve their disputes through political and diplomatic means.

The Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable path to ensuring peace and stability in the region.
