RAWALPINDI: In an interview, DG ISPR addressed reports circulating in Western media regarding an alleged attack on a rehabilitation center in Kabul, where the Afghan Taliban claimed over 400 fatalities. He noted that some international sources, including The New York Times, suggest the number of casualties may be closer to 75 civilians.
Responding to the discussion, he stated that the Information Minister’s remarks on the incident should be understood as factual assertions rather than mere explanations, emphasizing that the matter must be viewed within a broader strategic context. He described Operation Ghazab-Lil-Haq as part of Pakistan’s sustained campaign against terrorism, not a standalone action.
He asserted that Pakistan’s war against terrorism has been imposed by militant groups and their external sponsors, alleging that India supports such elements while using Afghan territory as an operational base. He further stated that multiple terrorist incidents in Pakistan have operational links to Afghanistan, citing attacks in areas including Tarlai, Bajaur, and Wana, and claiming that some perpetrators were trained, dispatched, or logistically supported from across the border.
He also alleged that certain militant leaders are being sheltered in Afghanistan, describing this as evidence that the country is being used as a sanctuary for anti-Pakistan elements.
The DG ISPR emphasized that Pakistan’s actions are directed solely against terrorist networks and their infrastructure. He reiterated that Pakistan holds no hostility toward the Afghan people and expressed the view that they too are suffering under the current circumstances.
Regarding recent developments, he stated that Pakistani forces targeted terrorist hideouts along the Pak-Afghan border, specifically against TTP elements, not the Afghan Taliban. He added that subsequent attacks on Pakistani border posts prompted Pakistan’s response as a defensive reaction to what he described as aggression.
