The Asian Development Bank (ADB) Country Director for Pakistan, Emma Fan, called on Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Shahab Ali Shah, in a high-level meeting held today to review the Bank’s ongoing project portfolio and discuss avenues for strengthening development cooperation in the province.
During the meeting, both sides held detailed discussions on a wide range of ADB-supported initiatives currently being implemented across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. These projects span critical sectors including infrastructure development, urban services, energy, climate resilience, and social sector improvements, all aimed at promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
Emma Fan reaffirmed ADB’s continued commitment to supporting the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in achieving its development objectives. She emphasized the importance of timely project implementation, effective resource utilization, and strong institutional coordination to maximize development impact. She also highlighted ADB’s focus on climate-resilient infrastructure, green growth, and poverty reduction as key pillars of its engagement in Pakistan.
Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah appreciated ADB’s longstanding partnership and its vital role in advancing key development projects in the province. He noted that ADB-funded initiatives have significantly contributed to improving public service delivery, enhancing connectivity, and strengthening economic opportunities for local communities. He further assured full support from the provincial government to facilitate smooth execution of ongoing and future projects.
The meeting also explored opportunities for expanding collaboration in emerging priority areas, including digital governance, urban planning, environmental sustainability, and disaster risk management. Both sides agreed on the need for enhanced coordination between provincial departments and development partners to ensure efficiency, transparency, and long-term sustainability of projects.
The discussion concluded with a mutual commitment to further deepen the partnership between ADB and the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with a shared vision of fostering sustainable development, economic resilience, and improved quality of life for the people of the province.
