PESHAWAR…. On the directions of the Consul General of Afghanistan in Peshawar, H.E. Hafiz Muhibullah Shakir, a delegation from the Consulate General led by Mr.Qari Niaz Mohammad Arif, Attaché for Refugees Affairs, held a meeting with the Head of UNHCR Sub-Office Peshawar, Mr. Kofi.
The meeting focused on the ongoing repatriation of Afghan refugees from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and across Pakistan. The delegation emphasized the need to:
– Increase the number of Voluntary Repatriation Centres (VRCs)
– Extend VRC operating hours to 24/7 to facilitate smooth processing
– Address delays faced by refugee families waiting for tokens and clearance
– Augment VRC staff to expedite documentation and ensure dignified return
Several other issues concerning the welfare of Afghan refugees were also discussed in a cordial and constructive atmosphere.
The Consulate General of Afghanistan remains committed to working closely with UNHCR and relevant authorities to ensure the safe, voluntary, and dignified repatriation of all Afghan nationals.
