PESHAWAR: Adviser to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sports and Youth Affairs, Taj Muhammad Khan Tarand, inaugurated the volleyball competitions of Games 2026 organized by the Directorate of Sports Merged Districts at Jamrud Sports Complex.

The opening ceremony was attended by Secretary Sports Department, Director General Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Director Merged Districts, Assistant Director Operations, District Sports Officer Khyber, other officials, and a large number of spectators.

Speaking on the occasion, Taj Muhammad Khan Tarand said that under the vision of PTI Chairman Imran Khan, equal sports opportunities are being provided to minorities and special persons in the merged districts alongside mainstream sports.

He said Khyber district has successfully hosted major sports events in the past, reflecting the growing sports culture in the area. He added that under the leadership of the Chief Minister, sports grounds are being developed across the province, while new facilities are being introduced in underserved areas to engage youth in positive activities.

The adviser announced that all shortcomings of Jamrud Sports Complex would be addressed and recruitments on required posts would also be made. He warned that negligence would not be tolerated and strict action would be taken against those responsible.

Responding to a question, he said the purpose of holding the provincial assembly session at Imran Khan Cricket Stadium was to create public awareness about the legislative process and allow citizens to witness the performance of their elected representatives.

He further shared that around 900 players are participating in ongoing sports activities in the merged districts. This includes 644 players in major games such as cricket, football, and volleyball, 200 players in minority games including volleyball and badminton, and 28 participants in wheelchair events for special needs persons.

The competitions are being held in eight districts and six sub-divisions, highlighting the government’s commitment to promoting sports and inclusive activities in the merged areas.
