Bajaur: Escalating tensions along the border have once again resulted in the loss of civilian lives in Bajaur, where, over the past two months, nine people were killed and twelve others injured in what officials describe as unprovoked cross-border firing and shelling by Afghan forces. A significant number of the victims are reported to be women and children, raising serious humanitarian concerns among the local population.
According to figures released by the district administration, a total of six incidents occurred during March and April 2026 in the Mamond and Salarzai areas. During these incidents, cross-border firing and shelling targeted civilian localities, particularly Laghari Mamond and Taripa Shah Salarzai. As a result, nine innocent civilians lost their lives, twelve were injured, and eight residential houses were completely destroyed.
Deputy Commissioner Bajaur Shahid Ali Khan stated that the district administration, in coordination with security forces, responded promptly and effectively, helping to bring the situation under control. The injured were provided immediate medical assistance and later shifted to Peshawar for advanced treatment, while emergency relief was also extended to the affected families.

Authorities further stated that steps are underway to rehabilitate the damaged houses, and compensation will soon be provided to the families of the deceased and the injured. Officials have reiterated their commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property, adding that the situation along the border is being closely monitored.
Meanwhile, local residents have expressed strong anger and grief over the incidents. On April 16, 2026, tribal elders, youth, and members of various schools of thought staged a protest, demanding an immediate halt to such cross-border actions to prevent further loss of life and property.
Experts warn that such incidents in border regions not only threaten peace and stability but also put civilian lives at continuous risk, highlighting the need for a coordinated and long-term strategy.
