Karachi: Police operations against smuggling networks, illegal transportation and organized crime continue across the city, Keamari Police carrying out a major crackdown on smuggling activities. During ongoing coordinated operations against illegal trade and contraband movement, investigators have uncovered the use of unconventional methods by smugglers attempting to evade law enforcement agencies.
According to police officials, Mochko Police acting on confidential intelligence intercepted a cash delivery van belonging to a private security company near the Mochko Check Post. During a thorough search of the vehicle, authorities recovered a large consignment of smuggled foreign cigarettes concealed inside the van.
Police said that approximately 8,000 packets of foreign cigarettes were seized. The estimated value of the confiscated cigarettes runs into millions of rupees. In addition to the contraband, police also recovered cash amounting to 1 Crore, 48 lac and 24 thousand rupees from the vehicle. Initial investigations revealed that the smuggled cigarettes were being transported from Hub, Balochistan to Karachi.
The driver, supervisor and security guards present inside the vehicle were taken into custody. The seized cigarettes, cash and the vehicle have been taken into police possession and handed over to Customs authorities for further legal proceedings.
Sindh Interior Minister Zia ul hassan lanjar praised Keamari Police for the successful operation, stating that smugglers are now adopting new tactics to avoid detection but Sindh Police will continue to foil their attempts. He said the use of a private security company’s vehicle for smuggling posed a serious challenge for law enforcement agencies, adding that the timely action by Keamari Police had exposed a major smuggling network.
