Taj Muhammad Tarand Inaugurates Junior Squash Championship

Over 100 Players Compete in National Junior Squash Event

PESHAWAR: The All Pakistan National Junior Squash Championship 2026, organized by the Directorate of Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, commenced at the Qamruzman Squash Complex in Peshawar with the participation of more than 100 male and female players from across the country.

Advisor to the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sports and Youth Affairs, Taj Muhammad Tarand, formally inaugurated the championship. The event is being contested in the Under-15 category and features players from all four provinces, Islamabad, Pakistan Army, and Pakistan Air Force.

The opening ceremony was attended by Secretary Sports Muhammad Asif Khan, Additional Director General Sports Rashida Ghaznavi, Deputy Director Nematullah, Director Sports Operations Jamshed Baloch, Organizing Secretary Munawar Zaman, Secretary Mansoor Zaman, Chief Coach Shafqatullah, and other officials and representatives of the Provincial Squash Association.

Addressing the ceremony, Taj Muhammad Tarand said the provincial government is actively organizing junior-level championships in various sports to provide young athletes with opportunities to showcase and refine their talents. He described the national junior squash championship as an important step in promoting sports among youth.

He further announced that Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Muhammad Sohail Afridi, will formally inaugurate a series of upcoming sports activities in the province. He emphasized that national-level competitions not only offer players competitive exposure but also help improve their technical skills and overall performance.

Tarand said the provincial government is taking practical measures to promote sports and expand modern facilities across all districts, enabling athletes to excel at national and international levels.

Speaking on the occasion, Secretary Sports Muhammad Asif Khan highlighted the broad participation in the championship and noted that sports development remains a priority of the provincial government. He said efforts are continuing to improve sports infrastructure while ensuring the regular organization of sporting events, allowing players from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to perform successfully in national and international competitions.

The championship will continue over the coming days, providing a platform for emerging squash talent from across Pakistan to compete and demonstrate their abilities.
