PESHAWAR: The University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Mardan and the University of Agriculture Peshawar have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a strategic partnership aimed at promoting innovation, research and the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Pakistan’s agricultural sector.

The agreement brings together the expertise of both institutions to jointly develop AI-enabled solutions for modern agriculture, with a focus on smart farming, precision agriculture, data-driven decision-making and technology-based solutions to improve productivity and sustainability.

Under the MoU, the two universities will collaborate on joint research projects, technology development, faculty and student exchange programmes, and capacity-building and training initiatives. The partnership also seeks to strengthen academic cooperation while encouraging innovation and knowledge sharing between researchers, students and industry stakeholders.

The collaboration will operate under a government-to-government (G2G) framework to support public-private partnerships, accelerate AI-driven agricultural innovation and promote the commercialization of research and emerging technologies. A shared roadmap will also focus on fostering entrepreneurship, institutional growth and the practical application of AI in addressing challenges faced by the agriculture sector.

Officials from both universities said the partnership reflects their shared commitment to harnessing advanced technologies for sustainable agricultural development. They noted that UET Mardan’s expertise in Artificial Intelligence will play a key role in supporting research, innovation and the development of smart agricultural solutions.

The two institutions also pledged to align future projects with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ensuring that all initiatives contribute to sustainable, inclusive and innovation-driven agricultural development while strengthening Pakistan’s food security and agricultural economy.
