With the Games approaching their conclusion, athletes from across the Commonwealth produced some of their finest performances, while the battle for medals intensified.
Josh Kerr delivers golden moment for Scotland
One of the biggest highlights of Day 9 came from Scotland’s star athlete Josh Kerr, who delighted the home crowd by winning the men’s mile.
Kerr produced a superb tactical race and timed his finishing burst perfectly to claim gold, creating one of the most memorable moments of the Glasgow Games.
The victory was particularly significant because the Commonwealth mile returned to the programme for the first time in decades, giving Kerr the opportunity to celebrate a major title in front of his home supporters.
India enjoyed a remarkable day in the boxing competition, winning seven of their ten finals and emerging as one of the major forces of the tournament.
Indian boxers delivered impressive performances across the weight categories, adding a significant number of gold medals to their country’s tally.
Among the notable victories was Sachin Sachin, who secured gold in the men’s 60kg division after a dramatic contest.
Jamaica stun Australia in netball
One of the biggest upsets of Day 9 came in netball, where Jamaica defeated defending champions Australia 46-45 in a dramatic semi-final.
The result ended Australia’s hopes of reaching the gold-medal match and represented a historic moment for Jamaican netball.
Australia had an opportunity to level the contest in the closing seconds, but the decisive attempt failed to find the net. Jamaica advanced to the final, where they will face New Zealand.
Historic achievement in cycling
Track cycling also produced a memorable achievement for Scotland.
Neil Fachie added another gold medal to his extraordinary Commonwealth Games record by winning the men’s tandem B sprint.
The victory took Fachie’s Commonwealth Games gold-medal tally to seven, further establishing his place among Scotland’s most successful athletes at the Games.
Athletics provides another day of drama
Athletics once again provided a packed programme of medal events, with competitors battling for precious gold, silver and bronze medals.
Nigeria’s Samuel Ogazi produced a strong performance in the men’s 400 metres to take gold, while Australia’s athletes continued to make a major contribution to their country’s medal haul.
The atmosphere at the athletics venue remained electric as Scottish supporters turned out in large numbers to cheer their home athletes.
