SYDNEY: The Pakistan Australia Association hosted a grand ceremony to mark Pakistan Day, bringing together Australian parliamentarians, Pakistani diplomatic officials, community leaders and members of the Pakistani diaspora.
Consul General of Pakistan Qamar Zaman Awan, Pakistan Australia Association President Ijaz Khan, General Secretary Intikhab Alam, Senator David Shoebridge, Member of Parliament Ed Husic and Consular Representative Mander Singh addressed the gathering.
Qamar Zaman Awan highlighted the significance of Pakistan Day and paid tribute to the sacrifices of the country’s founders. He said overseas Pakistanis serve as ambassadors of their homeland and play an important role in projecting a positive image of Pakistan abroad.
The ceremony was attended by representatives of Pakistani community organisations, the Sikh community and gurdwara committee. A cake was also cut, while special prayers were offered for Pakistan’s security, progress, prosperity and stability.
Speakers emphasised the role of the Pakistani diaspora in strengthening Pakistan-Australia relations and urged younger generations to remain connected with Pakistan’s history, culture, heritage and national values.
Children presented colourful tableaux and cultural performances depicting Pakistan’s rich heritage and patriotic spirit. Participants waved national flags and celebrated the occasion with enthusiasm, adding vibrancy to the Pakistan Day festivities.
