KABUL: Defence and Martyrs Day was observed with solemn dignity and national pride at the Pakistan Embassy in Kabul.

The ceremony was presided over by Ambassador of Pakistan to Afghanistan Ubaid-ur-Rehman Nizamani and attended by embassy officers, staff and a large number of members of the Pakistani community in Afghanistan.

Ambassador Nizamani paid tribute to the supreme sacrifices of Pakistan’s martyrs and veterans, praising their courage, patriotism and commitment to the defence of the country.

He said the unity, faith and determination demonstrated by the armed forces and the nation during the September 6, 1965 war, and reaffirmed during subsequent national security operations, reflected the professionalism and preparedness of Pakistan’s Armed Forces.

The ambassador also highlighted Pakistan’s growing role as a regional “Net Security Provider,” saying the country remained committed to dialogue and diplomacy while maintaining preparedness and resolve against conventional and unconventional threats.

Messages from President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar were read out on the occasion. A special documentary was also screened.
