COPENHAGEN: Denmark has welcomed Morocco’s autonomy plan for the Moroccan Sahara, describing it as a credible proposal and a good basis for a mutually agreed solution to the long-running dispute.
Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen made the remarks during a press statement following talks in Copenhagen with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita.
Rasmussen said Denmark, in line with the European Union’s position, welcomed the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2797. He described Morocco’s autonomy proposal as a “credible” initiative that makes a serious and essential contribution to the UN-led political process.
The Danish foreign minister reiterated that the autonomy plan provides a “good basis for a mutually agreed solution by all parties.”
Denmark’s position, as a member of the UN Security Council, further reflects growing international support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara and its autonomy initiative.
