SWAT: Director General Information and Public Relations, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Muhammad Ansar Khilji, has said that the provincial government is taking special interest in resolving the issues faced by newspaper owners and journalists and is taking measures on a priority basis.

He expressed these views during a meeting with a delegation of senior journalists at his office. The delegation included Peshawar Press Club Senior Vice President Zia-ul-Haq, former Mardan Press Club President Musarrat Khan Aasi, former Swat Press Club Chairman Rashid Iqbal, and Swat Union of Journalists President Shehzad Alam.

The delegation briefed the DG Information about the issues faced by Peshawar, Mardan and Swat press clubs. Muhammad Ansar Khilji said the provincial government was fully aware of the problems faced by the journalist community and was taking practical steps to address them.

He said the government had already released millions of rupees for newspaper owners. He added that a meeting of the Endowment Committee would be held this month to provide financial assistance to journalists suffering from serious illnesses.

The DG Information further said that he would soon visit press clubs across the province to directly review journalists’ problems and take necessary measures for their resolution.
