PESHAWAR: The annual conference of Pakistan Association of Urological Surgeons (PAUS) concluded successfully at a local hotel, bringing together more than 1,700 participants, including 50 international faculty members and speakers, for an extensive program of academic, scientific and research activities.
The three-day conference featured 14 plenary sessions and 10 pre-conference workshops, providing opportunities for professional learning, academic exchange and discussion on the latest developments in urology. The program also included the semi-finals and finals of the Pakistan Urology League competition, video-based sessions on advanced urological skills conducted by master surgeons, and dedicated sessions on inspiration, leadership, career counselling, teaching, training and assessment, and preventive urology.
The research component remained a major highlight of the conference, with 1,642 research abstracts received and 12 extensive research sessions conducted. A jury comprising 50 national and international faculty members evaluated the research contributions. Furthermore, 10 outstanding urology research synopsis entries were selected from 66 submissions for competition.
Alongside academic activities, the conference featured a series of social and cultural events for national and international delegates. Visiting faculty members were taken on sightseeing tours of Peshawar and its surrounding areas. A faculty dinner was organized at the lawn of the Forest College, while a grand gala dinner and cultural musical show was held at a local restaurant, featuring a captivating performance by a local musical band.
The concluding session was graced by the Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Faisal Karim Kundi, as the chief guest. Awards and shields were distributed among the organisers, research award winners and recipients of the three best paper awards.
A major highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award to Professor Shamim Khan from the United Kingdom in recognition of his untiring contributions and efforts towards promoting and advancing the field of urology at national and international forums.
An announcement regarding an increase in the salaries of postgraduate residents was also made during the concluding session.
Prof Dr Liaqat Ali, Chairman of the Organizing and Scientific Committee, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all participants, national and international faculty members, speakers, researchers and organisers for their contributions to making the annual conference a resounding success. He appreciated the collective efforts of everyone involved in organizing the event and advancing academic and professional excellence in urology.
It is pertinent to mention here that the conference also presented a very soft image of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa across the globe in such a challenging situation where foreigners are reluctant to visit Peshawar.
