PESHAWAR : The Right to Public Services Commission has intensified action against officials for failing to provide public services within the stipulated time, issuing show-cause notices to relevant authorities over complaints lodged by 11 citizens. The commission made it clear that negligence and delays in providing timely services to the public would not be tolerated.
A two-member bench of the commission took up applications submitted by citizens regarding the registration of FIRs and police verification. During the proceedings, the commission sought explanations from the relevant officials as to why legal action should not be initiated against them for failing to provide services within the prescribed period and for non-compliance with the commission’s directives.
Show-cause notices were issued to the RPO Mardan, DPO Karak and SSP Operations Peshawar for failing to provide services within the stipulated timeframe. The Secretary Home and Tribal Affairs was also served a show-cause notice over delays in the issuance of arms licences.
Similarly, show-cause notices were issued to the Deputy Commissioners of Mansehra, Peshawar, Buner and Haripur over delays in the provision of revenue services. The Director General Excise was also served a show-cause notice following a complaint regarding delay in the transfer of vehicle ownership.
In its statement, the commission said that timely provision of public services was the responsibility of state institutions. It said the commission would continue its efforts across the province to raise public awareness, promote transparent governance and ensure the timely delivery of public services.
According to the statement, unnecessary delays in government services add to the difficulties faced by citizens. The commission said the process of seeking explanations from officials responsible for such delays would continue.
