DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A tractor trolley allegedly laden with explosives rammed into the Aman Mela police check post in Tehsil Darazinda on Zhob Road, causing a powerful explosion that destroyed a large portion of the check post and collapsed a nearby house.
According to initial information shared by Regional Police Officer Dera Ghulam Mubasher Maiken, 10 people, including law-enforcement personnel, were martyred and 30 others injured. Local sources later reported that the death toll had risen to more than 12, while at least 32 injured people were shifted to hospitals. The figures could not be independently confirmed at the time of reporting.
The explosion caused extensive damage to the check post and the adjacent house. Police, security forces and rescue teams reached the site and launched relief and search operations amid reports that people could be trapped under the debris.
RPO Ghulam Mubasher Maiken told the media that DPO Dera Ziauddin Ahmed and SP Saddar reached the scene immediately after the incident. Rescue personnel shifted the injured to nearby hospitals, while critically injured persons were referred to major medical facilities in Dera Ismail Khan.
According to officials, personnel of police, excise, customs and wildlife departments were present at the check post. ETO Excise Dera Faheem Wazir said excise personnel remained safe.
Among those reportedly martyred were Customs ASI Farman Marwat, Muhammad Mehran, Muhammad Bilal, Mastu Khan, Customs official Usama and Faisal Aziz. Several members of a nearby family were also reportedly killed after their house collapsed in the blast.
According to hospital sources cited by local officials, bodies and injured persons were brought to nearby hospitals, while 18 critically injured people were shifted to Dera Ismail Khan for further treatment. Rescue operations and debris-clearing efforts were continuing.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi condemned the incident and sought a report from the relevant high authorities. He directed the concerned authorities to ensure all possible medical facilities for those injured.
The Governor described the incident as an act of terrorism and called for action against those responsible.
