Left-handed opener Abdullah Fazal produced a record-breaking batting display, smashing his maiden triple century as State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) dominated Ghani on the third day of the third round of the Presents ABS Developers President’s Trophy Grade-I at the National Ground in Islamabad.
Abdullah remained unbeaten on a magnificent 309 off 339 balls, featuring 29 fours and 11 sixes, as SBP declared their first innings at 638 for 5 in 115 overs. His marathon innings was the second-fastest triple century in Pakistan domestic cricket.
Abdullah shared a remarkable 417-run opening partnership with Hasan Raza, who scored a brilliant 222 off 221 balls, including 31 fours and two sixes. Their stand ranks as the third-highest opening partnership in Pakistan domestic cricket.
SBP resumed the day at 378 without loss and continued to dominate the Ghani bowling attack. After the opening stand was broken by pacer Abuzar, Kamran Ghulam added a valuable 54 off 85 balls, while captain Muhammad Ghazi Ghori contributed 32. SBP secured a massive 316-run first-innings lead.
Ghani reached 125 for 2 in 43 overs by stumps, with captain Mohsin Riaz unbeaten on 69 off 96 balls, including 12 fours and a six, while Mirza Tahir Baig made 45 off 130 balls.
SNGPL collapse against MIT
At the Imran Khan Cricket Stadium in Peshawar, Markhor IT Solutions secured a substantial first-innings advantage over Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL).
Replying to MIT’s 434, SNGPL were dismissed for 233 in 89.3 overs, conceding a 201-run deficit.
Left-arm spinner Khalid Usman was the chief destroyer, claiming an impressive 6 for 64 in 33.3 overs to register his 19th first-class five-wicket haul. Mohammad Ismail took two wickets.
SNGPL, who resumed their innings at 32 for 3, were rescued temporarily by Omair Bin Yousuf, who scored 61 off 132 balls, and Muhammad Imran, who made 46 off 71 balls.
Nightwatchman Athar Mehmood battled for 147 balls for his 20, while Muhammad Awais Zafar and Sajid Khan contributed 29 and 22 respectively.
MIT reached 33 for 1 in 13 overs at stumps, extending their overall advantage to 234 runs.
Arshad Iqbal puts KRL in command
At the Abbottabad Cricket Ground, Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) enforced the follow-on against Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL).
KRL, who resumed at 377 for 8, were bowled out for 398 in 117.3 overs. OGDCL were then dismissed for 217 in 63.1 overs, giving KRL a first-innings lead of 181 runs.
Fast bowler Arshad Iqbal returned outstanding figures of 5 for 55 in 16 overs, recording his third first-class five-wicket haul and taking his career tally to 97 wickets in 26 matches.
Mohammad Hammad Khan remained unbeaten on 56 off 104 balls, while Rohail Nazir scored 48 and Danish Aziz 40.
Babar Azam, making a promising start, scored 12 off 19 balls, including two fours, before Arshad Iqbal dismissed him.
Ahmed Bashir and Iftikhar Ahmed claimed two wickets each.
In their second innings, OGDCL reached 29 without loss in 10 overs, with Waqar Ahmed unbeaten on 17 and Ali Zaryab 12. They reduced their overall deficit to 152 runs by stumps.
Saud Shakeel century strengthens Kingsmen Academy
At the Diamond Cricket Ground in Islamabad, Kingsmen Academy strengthened their position against Pakistan Television (PTV) after declaring their first innings at 568 for 8 in 132.3 overs.
Kingsmen resumed at 237 for 2 and went on to establish a 213-run first-innings lead.
Mohammad Huraira, unbeaten overnight, completed an impressive 165 off 263 balls, striking 23 fours and a six.
Test batter Saud Shakeel also stamped his authority with a composed 100 off 147 balls, registering his 24th first-class century.
Wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Shayan remained unbeaten on 53 off 48 balls, recording his maiden first-class half-century, while Azan Tariq contributed 48 off 69 balls.
PTV’s Mohammad Taha claimed 3 for 34, while Kashif Ali took two wickets.
PTV reached 62 for 2 in 18 overs at the close, still 151 runs behind Kingsmen Academy.
With Abdullah Fazal’s historic triple century, Hasan Raza’s double century, Khalid Usman’s six-wicket haul, Arshad Iqbal’s five-for and Saud Shakeel’s century, the third day of the President’s Trophy Grade-I third round produced a series of outstanding individual performances across the country.
