ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has categorically rejected allegations by the Afghan Taliban regime linking Pakistan to alleged violence in Afghanistan’s Nuristan province, terming the claims baseless and unsupported by evidence.
In a fact-check issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Pakistan denied any involvement of its security forces or intelligence agencies in internal clashes in Nuristan or elsewhere in Afghanistan. The ministry also rejected allegations that Pakistan was recruiting or training former Afghan security personnel or facilitating Daesh or other terrorist groups operating in Afghanistan.
The ministry said no evidence had been presented to substantiate the allegations, including identities, documents, communications, forensic material or independent verification.
It also questioned the authenticity of a video being circulated on social media in support of the allegations, saying it showed a few unarmed individuals and did not establish any Pakistani connection.
Pakistan maintained that the presence and activities of various terrorist organisations in Afghanistan have been documented in reports by the United Nations and other international organisations. It urged the Afghan Taliban authorities to take verifiable action against terrorist groups operating from Afghan territory and fulfil commitments that Afghan soil would not be used for terrorism against Pakistan or any other country.
The ministry further said attempts to link Pakistan with internal developments in Afghanistan should not divert attention from security challenges inside Afghanistan.
Pakistan’s Foreign Office has previously stated that terrorist groups operating from Afghan territory remain a major concern and has called for verifiable assurances from Kabul that Afghan soil will not be used for terrorism against Pakistan.
The Ministry of Information concluded its fact-check by reiterating Pakistan’s rejection of what it described as fabricated allegations, stating: “Truth Prevails over Falsehood.”
